Does Not Last. Avoid This Junk.
The microwave was great until it stopped working within 2 years. Does not heat, sounds like it’s working but it is most definitely not. When we finished our house we bought appliances of every brand. Whirlpool microwave, LG refrigerator, Samsung induction oven/stove, Maytag Dishwasher, and Electrolux Washer and Dryer all at the same time. This was the first to crap out on us. Will not be purchasing Whirlpool appliances in the future. This is obviously a common issue with this microwave. So disappointing. I hope I don’t have to drill another hole through my new cabinets when we find one to replace it.

Only lasted 1½ years
Bought our Whirlpool microwave YWMH53521HZ in Dec 2020 and it died today, 1.5 years old. Everything looks like it is working; panel, light, turntable, and sounds like it is working but zero heat, nothing heats up whatsoever. All of our previous appliances were Whirlpool and lasted 20 years. Absolutely appalled that Whirlpool's product quality has now fallen to dollar store standards, nice work team! Hope their fridge and dishwasher (which already had 1 repair), that I bought with the microwave, fair better. Fingers crossed I can find a replacement that will slide into the same configuration.

So far So Good
I was looking to replace my over the range microwave after the last one failed after only four years and three months of use. There is little to choose from in this category and I decided to purchase the Whirlpool. I am enjoying it so far and am still learning how to operate all it's features. I wish a user manual was included with the unit. I wish the start button was larger and more distinct and I wish there was a cancel button. As i must use trial and error to operate the unit, it would be handy to have this feature. I enjoy the stainless steel interior which brightens the interior and it looks sleek and clean installed over my range.

Nice microwave
Fairly nice microwave, but not a giant fan of the push control panel. Would prefer touch controls rather than push. Feels like it might indent over time. Looks really nice. Very easy to clean. Really like all the different options it has, such as the light you can program to come on and turn off at a certain time. I only hope it is built to withstand the heat from the gas range beneath, it as it gets quite hot when I'm using the stove. Wish the 'ready' chime weren't quite so annoying! A ding or a beep would nicer. But all in all, quite happy with it.

Didn't last, just stopped heating
I'm learning that microwaves are not designed to last. We replaced another brand that lasted 4 years. We got about about a 1.5 years of use from this one. It stopped heating, called in service and were told it would be over $700 to repair, more than a new microwave. I thought upgrading to Whirlpool would buy me quality /longer life, apparently not.
We are not heavy users of the microwave. We reheat, defrost and useful popcorn, maybe average 2 to 3 short uses per day and the occasional defrost of 2-3lb of frozen meat.
I do not know the specs on the exhaust fan, it seems inefficient and is very loud on the high setting.

Do Not Buy
I got this is my brand new home. Before my 1 year warranty was up I has having problems, good for me it didn’t cost to replace the electronics the week before Christmas now it broke and won’t heat anything. This house is 1.5 years old. Now the choice is to replace it at my cost or pay for some guy to come service it. Please do not buy. I just read the reviews and everyone seems to be haven’t the same issue with this. I got my with my brand new home thinking I wouldn’t have to replace the appliances for 5 years at least! Boy was I wrong.

Sensor cooking!
We just bought the over the range microwave in the black stainless and we loooove it !! Not just for the colour and how easy it is to use but the sensor cooking is just awesome!!!! We use it all the time for the popcorn button and just amazed how fast and how perfect the pops it every time!! So happy we bought the microwave We also have the matching dishwasher which we looooove!!! Suck great features and a great brand!! We can’t wait to purchase our range and fridge to match!!

Poor quality
Magnetron died after our microwave was only 1.5 years old. Whirlpool replied with their generic, we will help you out message, so people reading these bad reviews thing they look after their customers. Their offer, after having to jump though many hoops, was to give us 15% off on the purchase of another of their new dollar store quality microwaves. Whirlpool owns Kitchen Aid and Maytag so we will try Frigidaire instead. Would not recommend Whirlpool products, certainly not the quality they used to be 20 years ago nor are they accountable when their products fail prematurely.

Frustrating that there is not a manual.
I purchased this microwave a month ago and still don't know how to use all of the features. I received a quick reference guide and no manual. When I try to find a manual on the website it only show the quick reference guide. Perhaps if I knew how to use all of the features, I would have a higher rating. I have also answered no to would I recommend to a friend but perhaps if I could get a manual and figure out the options that would also change. I would like to recieve a manual, not a video, not a quick reference guide

Not worth purchasing
I bought this microwave just over a year ago and it already stopped working. like other comments everything seems to work but just doesnt heat. I also cant any manuals online for it, even though i registered all my appliances. no manuals to be found or proper troubleshooting tips. The troubleshootting is very basic, it needs to go into a little more detail, since i tried all the tips. i am not ready to request a service call, just in case it is something as simple as a fuse inside the microwave, that i could change out
