Tools
Flat-blade screwdriver
¼" nut driver
2 adjustable wrenches
Supplies
Tee fitting
¼-inch copper water supply tubing
1. Shut off the water supply
First, unplug the fridge’s power supply. Then, inspect behind the fridge to see if a water line and a water supply valve are present. If not, you can connect the water line to the water supply underneath the sink, turning it clockwise to shut it off. Before doing anything else, let the remaining water flush from the line by turning on your faucet until the water drains completely.
2. Connect the tubing to the water supply
Using a ¼" soft copper tubing, ensuring you have the proper length, cut both ends square and slide the compression sleeve and nut onto the tubing. Next, insert the tubing’s end into the water supply outlet as far as it can go. Now it’s time to use an adjustable wrench to screw the compression nut onto the outlet.
3. Flush out the tubing
Put the other end of the tubing into a sink or small bucket, and then turn on the water supply. To help prevent a water valve malfunction, let the water flush through the tubing until it is clear. After it’s done, the last two steps are to turn off the water supply and bend the tubing to meet the water line inlet on the back of the fridge cabinet.
4. Connect the water supply tubing to the unit
Reach behind the unit to remove the short, black plastic piece from the end of the water line inlet and connect the water line tubing. Then, use a wrench to tighten the nut securely into place, without over-tightening it. Next, install a water supply tube clamp around the water supply line, as this will reduce strain on the coupling.
5. Turn on the water supply
Find the water supply valve, which is typically under the sink, and then re-activate it by twisting it counterclockwise. Inspect for leaks at each of the tubing’s connection points and tighten the connections accordingly, if needed. After confirming there are no leaks, slide the unit back into place and then reconnect its power supply.
